I record the time that it takes students to complete quizzes and midterms to ensure that time is not a factor in evaluations. 

As an example, the first ELEX 2117 midterm exam in 2025 was nominally 50 minutes but all students were allowed 110 minutes (2.2X).  The plot of the cumulative distribution below shows the fraction of students submitting their exams versus time.  It shows that 41% of students submitted their exams by 50 minutes and 90% of the students submitted by 77 minutes (about 1.5X):

For most students there seems to be little correlation between the time taken to complete the exam and the mark obtained.  The scatter plot below shows students' marks versus time to complete the exam.  Students obtained both high and low marks up until approximately 90 minutes.  However, all students who took more than 90 minutes did well.
